My first home purchase has been a disaster from the start and it has severely negatively impacted my mental health. I feel like I was swindled by Davenport as a whole, as everyone from the inspector they hire to the contractors they recommend, to the building management they claimed is attentive all turned out to be incompetent or straight up dishonest. First and most importantly, the first thing i told my real estate agent that sound is important to me and that I prefer a top floor unit. It was one of the primary reasons why I wanted to buy and no longer wanted to rent. But she insisted that there has never been any issues in this building before (Westview) or complaints from previous buyers/sellers. I did the dumb thing which I'll deeply regret for the rest of my life and believed her. The first night I moved in I could hear everything from my upstairs neighbor urinating to flatulating and of course their footsteps. The sporadic and unpredictable buzzing and thumping noises from both sides of my living room and bedroom wall have prevented me from sleeping since I moved in 7 months ago. I ended up spending over 10s of thousands of dollars on soundproofing and yet after 2 weeks of not living in my home and thousands of dollars later, I am still having noise issues. Something is structurally wrong with the building and I hear constant thumping from pipes contracting and expanding, HVAC sounds, and I still hear my neighbor's footsteps. Their inspector they hire missed that most of the appliances are broken (washer broke and leaked, boiler is broken, fridge ice maker is broken, dishwasher is broken as it doesn't dry, tub diverter was broken. one of the contractors they recommended broke a hole through my neighbors wall. It has been extremely stressful experience from the start of move in to present day. I am at a loss for what to do as I would like to sell but I have lost so much money already in buying this condo and in soundproofing it, and now i see that equivalent units in my condo building are going for much lower than they were last year. Again leading me to believe that I was swindled as my agent convinced me to go 10k higher in my offer. The valuation from the appraisal turned out to be 15k lower and they said the mortgage company (that they closely work with and recommended me) would comp me that difference but of course they never did. This is the last I ever trust allistic people to do business with.
