Country Club Hills: The North Arlington Neighborhood Most People Have Never Heard Of

Country Club Hills: The North Arlington Neighborhood Most People Have Never Heard Of
Last Updated: April 16, 2026
I’ve taken buyers through a lot of North Arlington neighborhoods. The ones who end up in Country Club Hills almost always say the same thing: “I didn’t know this was here.”
That’s not a knock on the neighborhood. It’s the opposite. Country Club Hills is one of those places that rewards the people who take the time to find it. Winding streets, mature tree canopy, large lots, and homes that actually have character. Once you turn off Military Road or Glebe Road and drive through it for the first time, it clicks.
This is one of the most desirable pockets in all of Northern Virginia. It just doesn’t advertise itself.
TL;DR / Quick Summary
- Located in North Arlington, bordered by Military Road and Glebe Road
- Homes from $1.5M to $5M with larger lots and some of the best curb appeal in Arlington
- Schools rate 8 to 9 on GreatSchools.org, among the strongest in the county
- Adjacent to the Washington Golf and Country Club, with a membership history including senators, cabinet members, and diplomats
- About 20 to 25 minutes to DC by car
- Best for families ready to make a long-term play in North Arlington
What Makes Country Club Hills Different
Most North Arlington neighborhoods have a version of the same story: older homes being replaced, tight lots, streets that start to feel familiar. Country Club Hills has a different feel entirely.
The lots are bigger. The streets wind. The trees are old and tall. There’s a sense of privacy here that you don’t find on a lot of Arlington blocks. Homes run from $1.5M up to $5M, and the range reflects real variety: some are beautifully updated classics, others are full custom builds that would hold their own in any market.
What ties it all together is the standard. Everyone in this neighborhood cares about how their home presents. The yards are immaculate. The landscaping is deliberate. You can feel the pride of ownership the moment you pull onto the street.
The Washington Golf and Country Club Connection
Country Club Hills sits right next to the Washington Golf and Country Club, one of the most prestigious private clubs in the DC area. Senators, cabinet members, and diplomats have historically been members. That’s not a detail that changes how the neighborhood looks. But it says something about who has always been drawn to this corner of Arlington, and the standard the community holds itself to.
This is a neighborhood with a long history of attracting people who are serious about where they live. That doesn’t mean it feels exclusive or cold. It means it feels established. There’s a quiet confidence to the streets here that’s hard to put into words until you’ve driven through it.
Schools
Schools in Country Club Hills rate 8 to 9 on GreatSchools.org, which puts them among the strongest in all of Arlington. For families making a long-term decision about where to put down roots, that number matters. If you’re comparing school clusters across neighborhoods, it’s worth looking at Yorktown and Williamsburg side by side with Country Club Hills before you decide.
Getting to DC
The commute to DC runs about 20 to 25 minutes by car. You’re not on the Metro line here, so you’ll need to drive. If walkability and Metro access are priorities, neighborhoods like Lyon Village, Clarendon, and Ballston are worth exploring. But for the buyer who wants space, privacy, and a neighborhood that feels like it’s arrived somewhere, Country Club Hills is a tradeoff most people make happily.
Who Country Club Hills Is Right For
I’ve worked with a lot of buyers who weren’t originally considering this neighborhood. They come in with a shortlist of Yorktown, Williamsburg, maybe Donaldson Run. Then they drive through Country Club Hills and most of them come back for a second look.
The buyer who ends up here usually wants something specific: a home with real presence, a yard their kids and dog can actually use, strong schools, and a neighborhood where the standard is high. They’ve owned a home in Arlington or DC, done well with it, and now they’re ready to make a long-term play. They’re not looking to impress anyone. They just want the right home.
If your budget is in the $2M to $4M range and everything you’ve seen in North Arlington is starting to blur together, take a drive through Country Club Hills before you make a decision. You can also explore some of the other character-driven options in the area, like Cherrydale and Ashton Heights, as part of your research.
Thinking About Making a Move?
Country Club Hills is one of those neighborhoods that doesn’t need to market itself. The homes speak for themselves. But finding the right one, knowing which streets have the best lots, and getting access to opportunities before they hit the public market, that’s where having the right people in your corner makes all the difference.
